Is social media good for the soul? #WorldMentalHealthDay
Is social media good for the soul? I recently posted these musings on Instagram to mark World Mental Health Day and thought I’d also share here.
I definitely go through phases when I struggle to scroll through squares of smiling faces on Instagram, visions of trim bodies and people who – it appears – totally have their s**t together.
Sometimes I don’t want to post because I don’t want to be judged on the image I’ve chosen.
As I get older I am more and more comfortable in my own skin but there’s always something that can make me stumble and my confidence falters. Is my business doing well enough? Am I doing enough for my kids? Am I where I want to be in my career?
Talking about it helps. Family, friends, playgroup mamas, school run parents, church family…π So here’s a throwback picture of me on the beach this summer, no make up, and natural hair, that I never posted at the time because I didn’t think the angle was quite right π
So here’s to talking, sharing and being yourself.
Curly Kids Rock – review
Do you have a daughter who at times struggles with loving her curls wholeheartedly?
I would definitely recommend this lovely little book called Curly Kids Rock ππΎ
Written by Lemoy Majen, it’s full of simple affirmations even the youngest of children can relate to.
And the book, complete with joyfully bright illustrations by Ann Pomelova, is not just specifically about afro hair either π
It’s a big thing for me to make sure my daughter loves her hair and she told me that the words were ‘great to hear if I’m ever feeling down about myself’.
Head over to Amazon where you can pick up a copy.
Planning for the school holidays with 5 Minute Fun
I’m going to try and to be a bit more prepared for the next school holiday and think about things to do with the kids in advance, and not just leave it to the night before!
I’m lucky to have discoveredΒ 5 Minute FunΒ who come up with simple – and enjoyable! – ideas to keep little fingers busy and most importantly allowing you to grab five minutes to yourself.
It was great to see both my toddler and nine year working together to make a fabulous owl from the goody bag they kindly gifted us!
I’ve spoken before about how difficult it is to get them to enjoy the same activity, so this was a Godsend.
And the activity cards (only Β£1.99 atm!) could keep the whole family occupied for ages doing little fun tasks, in the house or outside, which don’t involve any extra cash being spent.
Check them out ahead of the forthcoming Easter holidays!

Quarantine Cooking – The Easy Peasy Baking Campaign
So how’s everyone holding up?
Lockdown life is certainly trying but it seems many of us are turning to the art of making food to get us through it.
I’m not much of a baker to be honest but I can proudly say I’ve officially become a member of the FAB Flour Easy Peasy Baking Campaign π
I used their simple recipe to make flatbread and a tzatziki dip with the toddler – yes I could have done it faster by myself and yes he made a mess, but it kept him occupied for like, um, 20 minutes or so π€£π
Bonus points were achieved when both kids actually ate it and gave the dish the thumbs up ππΎππΎππΎ
Definitely worth following @fab_flour for more simple baking and cooking ideas, especially if you’re like me and are currently serving up the same few dishes on repeat.
Here are their recipes for the flatbread and of course, the infamous banana bread which seems to be most people’s go to at the moment!
