Alesha Dixon announced as judge of Explore Learning Writers’ Awards 2019
I’m a huge fan of Alesha Dixon – she’s definitely on my list of favourite celebs to chat to – so I was pleased to hear she’s been announced as judge for the Explore Learning Writers’ Awards 2019.
This is a chance for budding young authors across the UK to have their work recognised.
Open to children aged from four to 14, youngsters are encouraged to write a 500 word story with the winner bagging a trip to Disneyland Paris for their family and £500 worth of books for their school library.
To top it off, Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha will surprise them at their school with the news.
Mum Alesha is herself a published author and will this year release the third instalment in her children’s book series, Lightning Girl.
The comp opens March 11 when this year’s theme will also be announced.
Explore Learning will be running a number of free creative writing workshops with schools and libraries across the UK to inspire kids to take part.
The closing date for entries is Sunday May 5.

Curly Kids Rock – review
Do you have a daughter who at times struggles with loving her curls wholeheartedly?
I would definitely recommend this lovely little book called Curly Kids Rock 👌🏾
Written by Lemoy Majen, it’s full of simple affirmations even the youngest of children can relate to.
And the book, complete with joyfully bright illustrations by Ann Pomelova, is not just specifically about afro hair either 😊
It’s a big thing for me to make sure my daughter loves her hair and she told me that the words were ‘great to hear if I’m ever feeling down about myself’.
Head over to Amazon where you can pick up a copy.
Pregnant fans of Kate Middleton rejoice…
As you too can now look like a princess despite the bump – thanks to one of Kate’s fave designers creating a look-a-like of ‘that’ engagement dress for expectant mothers.
The nation’s heart melted when the future Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in the blue Issa gown to announce her engagement to Prince William. And now this gorgeous full length maternity version is available – perfect for a special occasion, it drapes in all the right places, shows off a tidy bump and off course a pregnant woman’s ever blossoming bosom!
Available at Blossom Mother and Child, the blue version retails at £715 (definitely a credit card/’I deserve a treat’ purchase!) or the short-sleeved red maxi dress at a slightly cheaper price of £619.
The original dress worn by Kate sold out within days of her engagement appearance and I’m pretty sure these won’t stick around for long either…

Spanx – a woman’s best friend?
Celebrities have long been singing the praises of Spanx, not just for the way it sucks in our lumps and bumps in all the right places, but because the right pair can also give you the perfect hour-glass figure which is becoming increasingly popular amongst both stylists and fashionistas.
Just in from the Spanx press day, which I decided to go to at the last minute to see what was on offer, as I was having what could only be described as a ‘fat day, week, month…’ (you get the picture!), I was impressed by the extent of the range available. Admittedly I never had any interest in owning a pair of Spanx before having my daughter, but now I can definitely see the benefits!
From the hardcore bodyshapers to the Haute Contour range featuring delicate lacy bodysuits offering lighter support and retailing at around £200, to the Active wear for the gym (yep, ladies, you can even exercise safe in the knowledge that no-one is judging your pot belly) and the Mama Spanx range for pregnant women looking for extra support for their bumps (apparently the singer Adele is currently using them during her pregnancy).
Spanx have definitely researched their market and seem to offer something for everyone – even the boys are not left out, with t-shirts and boxer shorts which come complete with a ‘3D pouch’…
