Aardman presents Learning Time with Timmy
AS a parent in the age of technology, it won’t be long before you’re debating how much ‘screen time’ to allow your child.
For some parents it’s not a real issue, while others prefer to limit the amount of time their little one spends in front of a screen to the bare minimum – each to their own.
But when choosing WHAT they watch it helps that it’s both fun AND educational, which is what the launch of Learning Time with Timmy seems to have achieved.
Created by Aardman – the Oscar-winning animation studio behind classics Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep – in partnership with the British Council, the interactive online series is aimed at making learning English fun.
And while my boy has just turned one, he took an interest to the preview episodes we were shown, in particular trying to join in with the animal noises and the dance at the end of each episode with Timmy the sheep. It also helped that there was popcorn – and a giant-sized Timmy in the auditorium…
The episodes are also short enough to deal with a toddler’s attention span!

Review: Pete’s Dragon
To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect as I walked into the screening for this latest Disney offering.
But I have to admit I was definitely touched by (I may have even teared up a little…!) this film about a little boy and his not so imaginary friend.
I absolutely loved Pete’s Dragon, there was something very real about the film’s subject matter (apart from the fact it was about a dragon of course!) but I really connected with the themes of loss, family and belonging.
With Oakes Fegley playing the charming Pete, an orphaned boy who has survived a life in the forest with the help of his big green furry friend.

My six-year-old daughter adored the film and found the characters relatable and the storyline easy to follow, able to recount several scenes to me on the journey home.
Oakes leads a strong cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban and Oona Laurence.

The SockShop – our family road test
It’s the little things that make a difference, isn’t it?
And so the whole family have been road-testing some fabulous socks from the aptly named Sock Shop for the last few weeks.
We’ve all been impressed by how super soft their Bamboo fabric collection is. Not only that, the skin-friendly material contains natural antibacterial properties to prevent smelly feet – and let’s be honest, that’s a massive plus whatever age you are!
I love seeing a bit of colour on my kids so it’s great that the collection is available in a range of gorgeous shades for both children and adults, as well as school uniform white.
The website also caters to those of you looking for some quirky novelty socks – I fell in love with some great pineapple socks which have been helping me project some tropical vibes whilst it pours with rain outside! I couldn’t resist them…despite having a slight allergy to the fruit! #lifeisunfair

My Colourful World: Best Friends – Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion
IT’S ALWAYS difficult when your child doesn’t fit the stereotypical images of childhood peddled out on TV and in books.
The day your little one asks you why they can’t see themselves in these forms of entertainment – is quite simply heartbreaking.
And that’s why, whenever I hear of something which addresses this problem, my heart sings!
Lolade Coker found herself in this situation and decided to do something about it.
With a four-year-old who loved colouring but never saw kids like herself in colouring books, the search started for Lolade and culminated in the creation of My Colourful World: Best Friends.
She said: “My Colourful World is an educational tool that promotes fine motor skills whilst teaching children about diversity and inclusion.
“This colouring book will help to build a strong community for all kids who are often misrepresented by mainstream media.”
The book contains 30 pages and are single sided to prevent the dreaded bleed through as those little artists get to work.
They can also easily be removed from the book for easy access.
