Hair wars…
I have what you’d call a love/hate relationship with my daughter’s hair. I love it when it looks neat and tidy, I hate it when I have to plait, wash or comb it – and so does she.
When she was younger I could almost get away with doing it while she slept, but as she’s got older we’ve gone from me chasing her around the house with a comb in my hand, to her sitting down for half of the ordeal before deciding she’s had enough. Oh, and did I mention how she hates to have water or shampoo touch her hair?
With her kinky afro hair I’m always on the lookout for any brands claiming to have an ‘easy comb’ or ‘detangling’ effect to make at least one aspect of the hair-dressing procedure less harrowing.
I’ve recently been trying Mini Naked De-tangler Shampoo and while it wasn’t an obvious choice – ie not aimed at afro-haired children – I was surprised (and glad) to see it did the job. Part of the Naked range, but specially for little ones, it’s almost completely (97%) made from natural ingredients.
Admittedly I wasn’t too keen on the smell when I first started to use it, but I think that may have been the combination of lavender oil in the ingredients alongside aloe vera – I’ve never been a fan of lavender and it always takes me a while to get used to the aroma!
It retails at about £3 which isn’t too bad, especially as afro hair doesn’t need to be washed every day – which is quite lucky really as I don’t think I, or my daughter, could cope with the trauma!
Dry Skin Baby Blues – the Organic Solution
With the onset of the wintry weather, it would be great of the only thing us mums had to worry about was kitting out our little ones in warm clothes, putting up the Christmas tree and – constantly – replacing lost gloves.
Unfortunately as the temperature quickly dropped I was having to contend with my little girl’s dry skin which was driving her crazy and her constant complaints about having ‘itchy legs’.
On the look out for a solution I came across Dry Skin Baby Lotion by Green People’s Organic Babies, part of their No Scent Range. The fact that it doesn’t contain any chemicals or perfumes is a total bonus, and I have to admit that I’m one of these parents who appreciate organic products, believing there’s a better chance your little one won’t have any adverse reaction to the product.
Certified Organic, 100 per cent free of Parabens and Lanolin, with ingredients that help to soothe and moisturise your little one’s skin – Hemp Seed oil, Aloe Vera, Apricot oil and Marigold – I was almost sold before I’d tried it! But after using the product for a couple of weeks I would definitely recommend it. With a price tag of £9.45 for 150ml it’s not cheap, but luckily a little goes a long way, so I believe it’s worth the money. Plus I no longer have to listen to my daughter’s complaints about ‘itchy legs’!

Cry Babies Magic Tears launch & Review
IF YOU have a child who loves to watch other kids on YouTube playing with toys, then you will understand how giddy with excitement my daughter was to attend the Cry Babies Magic Tears launch with her favourite YouTuber Tiana from Toys and Me (if you know, you know!).
She could hardly contain herself as we rocked up to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green to preview the new range of blind box toys.
You can currently get up to 12 different animal-themed dolls, each with six little accessories, in the pastel coloured house shaped containers. Of course the key aspect being you never know which one you’re going to get. The key is to look out for the miniature dolls with the gold accessory.
While getting the chance to do her very own ‘unboxing’ of the new toys, my daughter joined other excited little ones to watch Tiana do a live unboxing of the range joined by Channel 5 Milkshake presenter Jen Pringle.
Each doll does what it says on the box – cries tears when you squeeze it’s belly after feeding it with water from a bottle – and keeps their attention with the six accessories it comes with.
Retailing at around £10 each, it’s going to be pretty expensive for the parents whose child decides they want to collect all 12 but the price also makes it an affordable gift for birthdays etc.
The toys are also accompanied by an animated series of the characters on YouTube.

Slime, slime… and even more slime! Poopsie Slime Surprise VIP event
MY daughter is going through a major slime phase at the moment, so when we were invited to the Poopsie Slime Surprise VIP event, she could hardly contain her excitement!
Arriving at the brightly decorated London venue, she made a beeline for the slime-making table and proceeded to lose herself in the different varieties of slime being created. Meanwhile, I occupied myself by taking a picture on a giant toilet, lol.
The day was was a chance for fans to try out new additions to the range including Cutie Tooties Surprise and Sparkly Critters – which rather pleasantly spit or ‘poop’ slime.
The mix of toilet humour with sparkles is a winning combination for the brand – my daughter’s favourite is the Cutie Tooties Surprise which is a giant glittery poo complete with different types of slime, for example, water, crunchy, bouncy, marshmallow….! In addition, you also get a mini collectable character inside.
Meanwhile, my toddler is yet to show any interest in the wonderful world of slime and instead spent the day captivated by the balloons!
How long before he joins the tribe of kids fascinated by unboxing toys? The countdown begins….
