Jessica Ennis-Hill: ‘My son is my motivation’
She may be a gold medal winning Olympic athlete, but when it comes to parenting Jessica Ennis-Hill is just like any other mum.
Joined by her mother Alison Powell and presenter Gabby Logan to launch P&G’s #ThankYouMum at London’s Savoy hotel, Jessica revealed her one-year-old son Reggie keeps her going.
She said: “Reggie was my motivation at Beijing and he will definitely be again this year.”
Speaking as the 100 day countdown to Rio 2016 began, the sporting superstar hosted an afternoon tea event to mark the role her own mother has played in her success.
“It’s not until you become a mum that you kind of really understand everything… until you experience it first hand. You want to do everthing you possibly can to make sure your children get the best out of life. Reggie is just my 100 per cent number one focus.”
Jessica, 30, added: “I really don’t believe I would have been able to achieve any of my World, Olympic or European medals without the support and strength of my mum throughout my life.”
As part of the campaign P&G created a video titled ‘Strong’ (which you can watch here: www.supersavvyme.co.uk/tag/rio-2016-olympic-games) and have published ‘The Mum Report’ which details what it’s like to be a modern day mother.
And a massive ‘good luck’ to Jessica as she prepares for Rio. The yummy mummy is still deciding whether she’ll be bringing Reggie along for the ride but if he does sit this one out there’ll be lots of face-timing and photos promises grandma Alison!
Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon – review
Missed having Shaun the Sheep in your life?
Well, fear not, the lovable woolly character is back with a new friend this October.
Returning to the big screen, this time around havoc is caused when a mystery visitor from another galaxy crash lands near Mossy Bottom Farm. And it’s left to Shaun and his pals to ensure the fun-loving alien Lu-La makes it back home.
Obviously their quest is not without mishaps along the way, especially with an overly keen Men In Black style agent hot on their heels.
It’s actually amazing how much fun you can have watching a feature length film with no actual proper words but I guess that’s part of its appeal to all the family.
We were lucky enough to be treated to a preview screening and my biggest fear was that my two-year-old toddler would not want to stay sitting in one place for the duration of the film.
But in the end – after a slightly rocky start when he got a tad anxious about the rather ominous music in the first five minutes – I was only forced to step out once to go and buy some popcorn!
To round up, I think when it comes to productions by Aardman Animations we as viewers expect a certain quality and type of humour – thankfully their latest offering does not disappoint.
Farmageddon hits cinemas October 18. Watch the trailer here.
Cry Babies Magic Tears launch & Review
IF YOU have a child who loves to watch other kids on YouTube playing with toys, then you will understand how giddy with excitement my daughter was to attend the Cry Babies Magic Tears launch with her favourite YouTuber Tiana from Toys and Me (if you know, you know!).
She could hardly contain herself as we rocked up to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green to preview the new range of blind box toys.
You can currently get up to 12 different animal-themed dolls, each with six little accessories, in the pastel coloured house shaped containers. Of course the key aspect being you never know which one you’re going to get. The key is to look out for the miniature dolls with the gold accessory.
While getting the chance to do her very own ‘unboxing’ of the new toys, my daughter joined other excited little ones to watch Tiana do a live unboxing of the range joined by Channel 5 Milkshake presenter Jen Pringle.
Each doll does what it says on the box – cries tears when you squeeze it’s belly after feeding it with water from a bottle – and keeps their attention with the six accessories it comes with.
Retailing at around £10 each, it’s going to be pretty expensive for the parents whose child decides they want to collect all 12 but the price also makes it an affordable gift for birthdays etc.
The toys are also accompanied by an animated series of the characters on YouTube.

How do you get kids to eat vegetables? #EatinFullColour at the Bird’s Eye First Plates Restaurant
How do you deal with getting your kids to eat vegetables?
An easy life or forever a struggle?
Mine is the latter, so I was intrigued when we got an invitation to the Bird’s Eye First Plates Restaurant.
Here little ones were encouraged to #eatinfullcolour with a range of veg based dishes which included pea cake (yep, and it was actually quite nice!).
It was interesting to see the dynamic as all the kids sat together happily – mostly – trying out lots of different vegetables.
Us parents were lucky enough to get tips on how to get more veg in their tummies from TV child psychologist, Dr Elizabeth Kilbey, as seen on Channel 4’s The Secret Life of 4, 5 and 6 Year Olds.
She told me: ‘Don’t be deterred by them saying ‘I don’t like that’.
‘If they like particular colours try pairing them up, association helps.’
And even, gasp, making eating veggies fun!
For example, Dr Kilbey added: ‘Can we have a snack of every single colour today? Can we build a rainbow of the food we eat today?’
Research by Bird’s Eye to mark their Eat in Full Colour campaign shows that children are actually becoming more adventurous with their food, with 4-9 year olds naming sprouts and spinach as their favourite vegetables.
Almost a third (32 per cent) of parents say their children would eat just about ANY type of vegetable served – and only 29 per cent struggle to get their kids to eat their greens. Unfortunately I’m in that 29 percent!
But I was given some hope to keep trying after the event, adding more colour to ALL of our plates and trying new vegetables.
Click to see footage from the event (my daughter even has a speaking part!).
